Gozo vs Malta 2026
Each year, we have a fun tennis activity taking place in Malta and Gozo between recreational tennis players on both islands.
Typically, this involves a day-long tennis tournament (usually doubles), followed by a dinner event in the evening.
Players travelling to the island where the tennis event is taking place, have the opportunity to book into and spend a few days at a selected hotel on the island.

BEAUTIFUL DAY
There could not have been a better day for the 2026 Gozo vs Malta tennis event. With a clear, blue sky and a light breeze to cool us all down, everyone was in high spirits and eager to get things underway!
The tournament was played over six rounds (two 50 minute doubles matches per round).
Tournament Rules
▪ Doubles matches
▪ One full set (first to 6; tiebreak at 6-6)
▪ Standard scoring
▪ Changeovers every odd game
▪ Each pair plays two matches total (one early, one later)
▪ Win = 3 pts, Loss = 1 pt, Draw = 2 pts, Close loss bonus = +1 pt (games diff ≤ 2)
TOURNAMENT
Play started a little behind schedule and after the first two rounds, Malta had taken an early lead.
Rounds three and four were played in the blazing sunshine and, by the end of round four, Gozo had closed the gap and both teams were on equal points.
The highly anticipated round 5 got underway around 15:00, with Gozo expecting a win from both Gozo pairs (based on previous results). Unfortunately, a rude awaking was in store for Gozo, as Malta pulled two top-notch performances out of the bag to take them into the lead by one point with one round remaining.
The 'final' (round 6) got started. This was the round that would decide the tournament outcome.
Malta stormed into the lead with a fantastic first set performance that had everyone's jaw almost on the floor.
Gozo, still stunned by Malta's first set performance, rallied in the second set and took the lead. Unfortunately, time was against us and the fifty minute time buzzer sounded!
A fun day was had by all and the best team won on the day - well played Malta!
