Once every two years, thousands of athletes from around the world come together to take part in the The NatWest International Island Games. Gozo Tennis is actively working with Gozo Sports and the Ministry of Gozo in order to improve tennis facilities on the island, in the near future.

Although we here at Gozo Tennis are primarily motivated by the tennis aspect of the International Island Games, there are many other sports that make up the games. These sports include football, athletics, golf, sailing, cycling, judo, basketball, archery, swimming, gymnastics, volleyball and many more.

Some of the world´s finest sportsmen and sportswomen have taken part in the NatWest International Island Games. These people include: Mark Cavendish MBE (Isle of Man) — cycling, Kelly Sotherton (Isle of Wight) — heptathlon and 400m, Mattias Sunneborn (Gotland) — long jump and 200m, Cydonie Mothersille (Cayman Islands) — 200m and Pál Joensen (Faroe Islands) — swimming.

Island communities shape a unique spirit—independent, proud, and resilient. Growing up by the sea instills determination and a strong sense of identity, qualities that drive athletes to push limits and chase gold. The International Island Games give them a global stage while representing their own communities. At the Island Games, success is never individual alone—it’s shared, a victory that brings pride to an entire nation.
